Uncapped Haskell joins England squad

01/03/2007

Wasps flanker James Haskell has been called up to England's 28-man training squad ahead of the Six Nations match against France next Sunday.

Haskell is an under-21 international but has never been involved with the full international set-up before.

David Strettle, whose performance was one of the few bright spots in England's 43-13 defeat by Ireland last weekend, keeps his place in the squad and he is joined by Harlequins team-mate Nick Easter and recalled second-row Steve Borthwick of Bath.

Haskell's Wasps team-mate Tim Payne is called up and Sale injury worries Jason Robinson, Mark Cueto and Magnus Lund are all included.

Gloucester full-back Olly Morgan misses out however as he injured his shoulder at Croke Park.

As expected, under-fire centre Andy Farrell keeps his place in the squad, although many critics have expressed doubts over his ability to perform at the top level in rugby union so his place in the first XV could be under threat.
