Vickery up on stamping charge
11/12/2007
England captain Phil Vickery is to appear before a disciplinary committee after being cited for allegedly stamping on an opposing player.
The prop is accused of using his boot against Clermont Auvergne lock Thibaut Privat in Wasps' 37-27 loss in the Heineken Cup last weekend.
A possible two to three-week ban hangs over Vickery although any punishment is unlikely to affect his availability for England's Six Nations campaign.
It is the second time this season that the 31-year-old front-row will have faced the authorities after he was banned for part of the World Cup for a trip on USA's Paul Emerick in England's opening group match.
The hearing into the case, which has been called by citing commissioner Aurwell Morgan, will take place as soon as possible with Vickery free to play on until a judgement is reached.
Vickery's club side will be offered an immediate shot at avenging their defeat to the French outfit when the reverse fixture sees Clermont descend on Adams Park this weekend.
Anything less than a victory will leave the defending champions almost certain to leave the competition at the first hurdle.
