Walker heads to Hull
13/09/2007
Former Great Britain international Chev Walker is to move to Hull Kingston Rovers for the 2008 season, the club has announced.
Walker, 25, is making the move back to rugby league after a difficult period in rugby union playing for Bath. He will hope to replicate his successful spell at Leeds Rhinos, which saw him make 156 appearances for the club before switching codes in 2006.
The three-year contract announced today is described as a "massive boost" to Hull KR by the side's head coach, Justin Morgan.
He hopes to take his side into the top six of the engage Super League and believes Walker's arrival could help him do that.
"He will have a devastating impact in our back line, fuelled by the handling skills of midfield generals Paul Cooke and James Webster," Morgan said.
His Bath counterpart, Steve Meehan, admitted being "naturally disappointed" by Walker's exit, saying that the player's talent had begun to emerge towards the end of the season.
Walker himself said he was looking forward to a "new chapter" in his career.
"It's very exciting times for Hull Kingston Rovers which I'm delighted to be part of for the next three years," he said.
"I would like to thank Bath for giving me the opportunity to play rugby union and firmly believe that their current squad can compete strongly for honours this season."
