Wasps aim to recreate cup victory
22/04/2007
London Wasps and Northampton Saints meet today at the Rioch Centre in the second Heineken semi-final.
Victory for either team will book a place in the final against Leicester, who overcame Llanelli 33-17 yesterday.
Wasps will be looking to add to their 2004 victory against Toulouse and today play a team they beat 35-29 only last weekend in the Guinness Premiership.
Danny Cipriani will start at fly-half, with Alex King on the bench looking to make his 50th Heineken Cup appearance.
Cipriani and centre Dominic Waldouck, both Wasps academy products, were in the crowd when Wasps last won the competition.
"After standing with Danny watching the last final, it is surreal that we are actually here now with the possibility of playing in a final," Waldouck said.
"You have to take a step back and think about it, but you have to treat the semi-final just like any other game."
Northampton will welcome back former All-Blacks fly-half Carlos Spencer who has recovered from an injury.
"Carlos has made an amazing recovery," said Northampton boss Paul Grayson.
"It's a testament not just to the medics but also his desire to play for the team."
Grayson's team however will be without hooker Dylan Hartley and inside centre Matias Cortese.
England international Josh Lewsey starts on the bench for Wasps.
