Wasps comeback beats Saracens
08/04/2007
A late brace of tries from scrum-half Eoin Reddan completed a remarkable last-ditch comeback for Wasps as they beat Saracens 27-26 to keep their play-off hopes alive.
Reddan scored twice in the last ten minutes to overturn a seemingly insurmountable 26-13 deficit and close the gap on Saracens in the fourth play-off place of the Guinness Premiership.
Wasps replacement Mark van Gisbergen was also a hero among the Adams Park crowd as he slotted both conversions home to seal the win.
Things had looked as if they would turn out very differently after a first half in which Saracens were dominant. However, Wasps kept the visitors out until late on in the half when Thomas Castaignede went over in stoppage time to give them a 13-6 lead.
Things continued to go Saracens' way early in the second period as Cencus Johnston ran in a second try for the away side just after the restart, Glen Jackson missing the conversion.
Danny Cipriani pulled one back for Wasps but when Rod Penney then ran in a third try for Saracens, the game looked to be over to all but seal the away team's play-off place.
But Reddan and Van Gisbergen's heroics in the final minutes ensured the race for the Guinness Premiership semi-finals remains very much on heading into the final two matches of the season.
