Nestor and Zimonjic take doubles crown
05/07/2008
Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic beat Jonas Bjorkman and Kevin Ullyett to win the men's doubles final at Wimbledon. It was their first Grand Slam title as a duo.
The contest was even at one set each in the third set when Zimonjic and Nestors powerful serve swung the tie in their favour. They won the set 6-3 and went on to clinch the title by winning the fourth set 6-2.
It was a Wimbledon farewell for Bjorkman, who is retiring this year. It was the Swedes 129th match at Wimbledon, with an incredible 95 victories, but unfortunately for him he was a loser on this occasion.
Nestor and Zimonjic won an exciting first set tie-break to put them ahead, but Bjorkman and Ullyett fought back in the second.
After that Nestor and Zimonjic came into their own and won the title in a match that lasted two hours, 39 minutes.
The victory completes a full set of Grand Slam titles for Nestor and its also a first Wimbledon title for his partner.
