24 star faces jail for DUI offence
29/09/2007
Kiefer Sutherland may be jailed for his most recent alleged drink-driving offence.
The 40-year-old 24 star was charged on two counts of drink-driving yesterday after being arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Sutherland won a best actor Emmy in 2006 for his role as Jack Bauer in 24 and a film version of the show is in the pipeline.
But according to Californian law as he is still serving probation on an alcohol-related offence from November 2004 his venture on to the big screen may be delayed by at least four days in jail.
Sutherland was reportedly stopped after attempting to perform a U-turn while driving on Tuesday.
He was bailed for $25,000 (£12,390) after attending the Fox Fall Eco-Casino party in Los Angeles earlier in the evening.
A court appearance is scheduled for October 16th, when Sutherland will come up against the same judge who convicted heiress Paris Hilton earlier this year.
Michael Sauer demonstrated in that case that he is not prepared to show celebrities any leniency when it comes to breaking the law, sentencing Hilton to 45 days after she was found guilty of driving with a suspended licence.
