Ant and Dec crowned TV kings
12/01/2008
Over half of Britons saw Ant and Dec at least once during 2007, making them the most-watched TV presenters of the year, a survey says.
The I'm A Celebrity
Get Me Out Of Here! and Saturday Night Takeaway stars caught the attention of 51 per cent of Britons, pushing them up from eighth place in last year's poll from MPG.
The media agency used figures from the Broadcasters' Audience Research Board for their survey, which saw X Factor and Big Brother presenter Dermot O'Leary coming a close second.
But it was Ant and Dec who took the honours. MPG strategy director Martyn Stokes said: "We predict their popularity will carry on growing throughout 2008 due to ITV's continued investment in Saturday evening TV, leading to further fame and a higher possibility of success in the US."
Last year's winner Gary Linker lacked a World Cup to boost his ratings and so slipped to fourth, below This Morning's Phillip Schofield at number three in the chart.
Meanwhile Strictly Come Dancing's Tess Daly was fifth, up four places from the 2006 chart, while Bruce Forsyth entered for the first time in seventh.
Top Gear presenters Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May were sixth, eighth and ninth respectively and Jonathan Ross rounded off the top ten.
There were some significant absences from last year's top ten, with Chris Tarrant, Big Brother presenter Davina McCall and Noel Edmonds all missing out.
