BBC's John Simpson expecting to be sacked

14/10/2008

The Veteran BBC broadcaster John Simpson has said that he is expecting to be sacked from the corporation soon.

Speaking at the Cheltenham Literature festival, Simpson said the future of the BBC looked bleak and was "is in its last stages" due to the license fee being "chopped away".

The 64-year-old said he too would be replaced soon by those running the BBC, but added: "I hate them pretty much anyway".

"Anyone who wants to cut the BBC down - and there's lots who do - the way to do it is to chop away at the money," Simpson added.

"We are already cutting back on all our operations across the board, as a result of the effective cut in the licence fee. The future? Well, I don't think that it's going to look very good for the BBC."

The world affairs editor added the BBC was now on its last legs.

"It pains me after 42 years of working for it to think that, but I alas do," he added.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18825879-ADNFCR
