Brand 'ready to settle down'

Russell Brand, the host of this year's Brit awards ceremony, says he is currently single and looking for a long-term girlfriend.

The 31-year-old comedian denied recent claims that he is dating Laura Gallacher, the younger sister of the television presenter Kirsty.

Indeed, he claimed he will be spending this Valentine's Day alone, just as he has done every year previously.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Brand explained: "I've struggled with relationships.

"It's not that I've got bored, they just haven't worked out.

"I guess I'm too busy, but a steady girlfriend would be nice," he said.

He also stated that his mother was keen for him to settle down and have children.

The comments come as Brand attempts to leave his reputation as a womanising alcoholic behind him.

The actor quit taking drugs and drinking in 2003 and has since seen his career take off, culminating in the job of host at this year's Brit Awards.
