Celeb BB up for people's Bafta
05/03/2007
Last year's Celebrity Big Brother is one of six shows nominated for the only award chosen by the public at the Bafta television awards.
Some of the most memorable moments from the series include George Galloway MP licking milk from Rula Lenska's hands and Pete Burns parading around in his tights.
It was also the show that brought together Ordinary Boys' singer Preston with ordinary girl Chantelle Houghton, who went on to wed just six months later.
The Pioneer audience award is given to a show which is deemed to have defined television in 2006, received critical acclaim for its original approach and captured the public's imagination.
Also nominated are Sir David Attenborough's breathtaking Planet Earth, entrepreneurial show Dragon's Den and the 1970s police series Life On Mars.
Stand-alone spin-offs The Vicar of Dibley Christmas special and The Royle Family – The Queen of Sheba complete the list of nominations.
Anne Marie Flynn, head of awards for Bafta, said: "The great thing about the Pioneer audience award shortlist is that it reflects the real diversity of television which has been enjoyed by the public this year."
People can vote for the show they think should win at www.obsessedwith.tv. The Bafta television awards will take place on May 20th.
