Corrie filming put off by absent star

09/07/2007

Coronation Street producers were forced to abandon a day's filming after actor Steve Arnold, who plays butcher Ashley Peacock, failed to turn up for work.

The actor's absence meant that a love triangle sequence for the soap could not be shot.

The Sun reports that officials have sent Arnold a warning letter for his conduct as the actor's non-attendance had caused financial losses.

A driver was sent to pick up Arnold for the day's filming but the star wasn't at home and was not answering calls to his mobile phone.

A Coronation Street spokeswoman said: "We couldn’t raise him all Friday and Saturday. He will have to explain himself."

The Sunday Mirror cites a source close to the cast as saying: "The cast and crew were furious. Steve's character was crucial and the day was basically a write-off.

"Corrie has always supported any cast members if they're having problems. But it's not acceptable to disappear without telling anyone, no matter how famous they are."

Arnold is expected to appear for shooting today.
