Diana concert ratings beat Live Earth

09/07/2007

Live Earth drew a smaller TV audience than the Concert for Diana on Saturday, according to figures released today.

The Al Gore-headed Live Earth series achieved viewer stats of less than a third of the total which tuned in for the Concert for Diana.

According to figures from the BBC, Live Earth's average audience between 20:00 BST and 22:00 BST was 3.1 million compared to an average of 11.4 million for the Diana event.

Live Earth involved nine concerts across the world, beginning in Australia and finishing in the US.

London's climate change awareness event took place at the new Wembley Stadium and included performances from Madonna, Genesis and Metallica.

Kasabian, Black Eyed Peas and a host of comedians and celebrities also appeared on the stage.

The Concert for Diana, which took place on July 1st, was also at Wembley and featured a performance from Sir Elton John.

Organised by Princes William and Harry, the event aimed to celebrate the life of Princess Diana on what would have been her 46th birthday.
