Don Arden dies aged 81

24/07/2007

Sharon Osbourne's father and successful music manager Don Arden has died aged 81 in a Los Angeles nursing home.

Arden had become estranged from his daughter for a number of years after Sharon began managing her husband Ozzy Osbourne's career.

Ozzy had been under the management of Arden during his time in the Birmingham-based rock band Black Sabbath.

Arden also managed the Small Faces and became known for his fearsome temper and tough reputation in the music business.

He later became reconciled with Sharon after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and featured in the fly-on-the-wall documentary The Osbournes.

After beginning his career and a singer, Arden went on to become a music mogul well-known throughout the industry.

He had great success with some of his headline acts despite losing Ozzy and seeing the Faces split.

He is survived by his daughter Sharon and his son David. His wife, Hope, passed away in 1998.
