Evicted Bannerman 'deeply sorry'

23/11/2007

Marc Bannerman has admitted he is "deeply sorry" for his actions in the new series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

The former EastEnder become the first contestant to be evicted from the jungle on the seventh series of the ITV1 show but has seen his flirting with ex-Catatonia lead singer Cerys Matthews land him in hot water with actress girlfriend Sarah Matravers.

The Footballers Wives star had travelled to Australia for a pre-arranged meeting, but flew back to England less than 48 hours after her arrival.

And Bannerman has said that while he had decided to take part in the show as it could change his life in a positive way, he is currently "devastated" at the repercussions of his jungle stint.

When asked about his relationship with Cerys, he said: "Nothing happened between the two of us at all but it was just kind of getting to the situation where it was becoming more than just friends, in our behaviour there was a lot of flirting going on.

"I realise as I was doing it but I couldn't help it, but I just realised in the last couple of days that... I certainly shouldn't be behaving like this."

Bannerman added: "I felt like I was betraying my partner and I was you know. Not in the overtly physical sense but mentally.

"I'm glad that I've been voted out now because it would have been awful for me to put Sarah through a moment more despair than I already have."

Following Marc's eviction, Cerys took part in the Bat Out of Hell Bushtucker Trial with Gemma Atkinson, which saw the Welsh singer and the former Hollyoaks actress forced to throw balls at an inflatable target after being fired into the air from a reverse bungee."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18367187-ADNFCR
