Gavin and Stacey third series 'depends on scripts'

02/09/2008

Gavin and Stacey will only return for a third series if the scripts are of a high standard, according to Ruth Jones.

The Bafta winner, who plays Nessa in the much-loved sitcom she wrote with co-star James Corden, explained she is fearful of tarnishing the show with below-par storylines.

"We're not ruling it out but it would have to be a really good idea and a really good story," she told BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat programme.

"We hardly ever see each other or speak to each other because we're both doing other stuff at the moment.

"Who knows? Never say never."

Having won a number of awards and the hearts of the nation with its first two series, Gavin and Stacey is set to tread a similar path to The Office, following twelve episodes with a Christmas special.

But despite rumours of the upcoming episode featuring a number of cameos - with Duffy and Charlotte Church linked with the project - Jones said the show will remain "essentially about our cast as we know it".

"There are no plans as we speak to bring any celebs in but we're really honoured that people like it so much", she added.

"It's going to be exciting. I love anything Christmassy. I love all those Christmas films. It makes you feel all nice inside.

"Hopefully that's what this Christmas special will do."

Speaking ahead of her appearance in BBC1's Tess of the D'Urbervilles adaptation, Jones revealed she and Corden are hopeful of working together in the future, potentially on a "really good romantic comedy one day, a big film".

"That's what would be the ideal scenario if we ever get time to sit down and work together again," she continued.

"That's probably the area that we share in common is this love of romantic comedy."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18759678-ADNFCR
