Gerry falls on BB sword

18/08/2007

Big Brother's Gerry volunteered to leave the house in last night's eviction after he and Carole received the most votes to go.

The learned Greek, by turns intellectual and flamboyant during his time in the house, faced a crisis when it was revealed that Ziggy, Tracey and Sam and Amanda would have to choose which of him or Carole would be the tenth evictee.

"I want Carole to win the money. Show them I don't want the money… I knew there would be a twist and I'm absolutely fine with it," he said, as a tearful Carole watched on.

His kind self-sacrifice was apparently rewarded when he stepped out of the house to be met by near-unanimous cheering - from the usually much more unpleasant crowd.

And although it was revealed that he only attracted 24 per cent of the public vote, compared to Carole's 49 per cent, he remained insistent that the 56-year-old mother hen of the house should have stayed.

"You only see grumpy morning Carole, but she is very altruistic and you don't see that," he said, before explaining why the manner of his exit from the house had actually been very positive.

"I came here to be accepted. Now I'm reassured that people do actually like me. It's not that bad."
