Heather Mills takes part in US dance show

21/02/2007

Heather Mills McCartney is to take part in a televised dancing competition in the US.

The estranged wife of Sir Paul McCartney and UN goodwill ambassador will be the first contestant to compete in Dancing With The Stars with an artificial limb. Lady McCartney lost her left leg during an accident in 1993.

Similar to the UK's Strictly Come Dancing, the US ABC show sees 11 celebrities partnered with professional dancers performing numerous ballroom dances.

Former contestant and chatshow king Jerry Springer announced who would be taking part on ABC's Good Morning America.

He told the audience that Lady McCartney's involvement sends a message to people that whatever challenges they face in life, they can dance.

"She may be a sentimental favourite," he added.

Lady McCartney is currently embroiled in a high-profile bitter divorce with former Beatles star Sir Paul and has discussed her security with UK police following a number of death threats.

Other celebrities taking part in Dancing With The Stars include *NSync's Joey Fatone Soprano's star Vincent Pastore and former Entertainment Tonight host Leeza Gibbons.
