Heroes star says writing staff must get back to basics
11/03/2008
The writers of hit TV show Heroes must concentrate on pleasing the fans if the series is to improve, according to one of its stars.
Leonard Roberts, who plays ex-con DL Hawkins on the NBC series, said Heroes had lost focus during its second season and must work on exploiting its strengths once the third season starts.
The superhero saga, created by Tim Kring, proved to be one of the biggest hits of 2007, with fans swept up by its powerful drama, exciting plots and appealing characters such as the troubled Peter Petrelli and time-traveller Hiro Nakamura.
But the second season - entitled Generations - was poorly received by critics and fans alike, many of whom were thankful that the Hollywood writers' strike meant an early end to the sophomore instalment.
And talking to Digital Spy, Roberts has admitted the shortened second series could be good news for the show as a whole.
"If anything good can come out of the writers' strike in the US, I think it was an opportunity for the Heroes camp to regroup and get back to the type of storytelling that garnered all these fans across the world and to do right by them," he explained.
"I mean the fans put the show where it is and it's only right that the creative element behind it respects that audience and gives them something that is worthy of their respect."
He added: "I hope that they've had some time to do that I think they have and when everybody gets back to work I have no doubt that it's going to be a stellar season."
Creator Tim Kring recently showcased a video preview of the third season, set to be entitled Villains.
