Keith Floyd in stable condition after pub collapse

01/02/2008

Television chef Keith Floyd is said to be in a stable condition in hospital after collapsing at a pub in Staffordshire.

The 64-year-old was admitted to hospital earlier this week following the collapse at the Chesters pub in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The pub's owner Glenn Geldard, a friend of Floyd, initially told reporters the chef was "nod doing very well".

But following his visit to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire he later said: "He has stabilised. That's all the news we have heard."

Newspaper reports had earlier claimed that the chef had been drinking whisky for a week due to relationship problems.

But Floyd's manager told the Daily Mail the chef had been suffering form exhaustion after returning from a lengthy spell of work at his restaurant in Thailand.

"Everyone knows Keith likes a drink - his favourite tipple is Scotch," said Stan Green.

"But it has never been a problem for him and I doubt whether it is a factor in his collapse."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18451624-ADNFCR
