Kylie and Parky head NY honours

Kylie Minogue, Michael Parkinson and Sir Ian McKellen are the leading lights topping the Queen's new year honours list.

Chatshow host Sir Michael, who fronted his last show earlier this month, has been knighted, while Sir Ian McKellen joins the exclusive Order of the Companion of Honour for "services to drama and equality".

The iconic Minogue becomes an OBE, a plaudit she said she "never imagined" she would receive.

"This last year I have felt so much love and support from everyone as I took greater steps back into the public domain, and it is with absolute gratitude and joy that I say farewell to 2007 and look forward to what the new year will bring," she said.

Another musical star honoured by the Queen is Trevor Romeo, better known as Jazzie B from 90s dance group Soul II Soul.

From stage and screen, Leslie Phillips and Julie Walters receive a CBE while History Boys star Richard Griffiths wins an OBE.

BBC journalist George Alagiah and Countdown presenter Des Lynam are the top broadcasters honoured this year, both also being awarded an OBE.

Children's authoress Jacqueline Wilson is made a Dame while the creator of Dolly the Sheep, Professor Ian Wilmut, and Marks and Spencer chief executive Stuart Rose receive knighthoods.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18408524-ADNFCR
