Lloyd Webber 'doesn't know which Joseph'

18/05/2007

Andrew Lloyd Webber has revealed he doesn't know which contestant on the hit show Any Dream Will Do will end up being Joseph.

The composer appears on the BBC1 show Friday Night With Jonathan Ross at 22:35 BST tonight and talks candidly about how the casting process for the next production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat must be a success.

"Star quality is incredibly difficult to find... I genuinely don't know who Joseph is yet [but] we will find the right person... ultimately I've got to have somebody I know can deliver," Lloyd Webber said.

"I'm not born to do television, I was so nervous going in to the first show, but 20 minutes in I lost myself, because this [casting] is what I do."

The award-winning West End figure also said that he once had a try at writing a Eurovision song with Tim Rice, but he had become disillusioned at the apparent 'block voting' which goes on.

"Now Eurovision's become entirely about block voting," Lloyd Webber said. "What I don't understand is all these countries hate each other, so why do they vote for each other."

Joseph panellist and West End leading man John Barrowman appears on tonight's show with Lloyd Webber.
