Mel B dances off show

28/11/2007

Spice Girl Mel B danced her way off US TV series Dancing with the Stars last night, narrowly losing out on securing the show's mirrorball trophy.

Despite earning perfect scores from the show's judges for her final performance of the Mamba, Brazilian racing driver Helio Castroneves won the dancing prize after winning the highest share of audience votes.

The pair and their respective professional dancing partners had been the only two couples left on the dance floor as the series approached its end, with US singer Marie Osmond having earlier been eliminated to take third place.

Mel B, who was paired with dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, admitted being beaten into second place was "a horrible feeling".

But Scary Spice said competing in the show – the US version of Britain's Strictly Come Dancing – had been "an amazing experience".

Last week reports had suggested Mel B's success in reaching the finals of the show was affecting Spice Girls rehearsals for the group's forthcoming tour.

A source close to the group told the Sun newspaper of fears Mel B's dancing commitments could compromise their much-publicised return, claiming rehearsal time had been cut back in order to accommodate her participation in Dancing with the Stars.

Referring to the attitude of Mel B's fellow Spice Girls towards her dancing, the source said: "The girls are really proud of her but at the same time they’re worried that Mel will give her all to the dance show and be exhausted for the start of the tour."

The Spice Girls comeback tour is set to begin in Vancouver on December 2nd.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18372509-ADNFCR
