'Over-the-top burial' set for Anna Nicole
02/03/2007
An "over-the-top" funeral has been planned for the former Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith.
A friend helping to organise the day has said that it will be fitting for the life that she lived, with over 300 guests and scores of pink flowers – her favourite colour.
Security is tight, with a controlled guest list and the location of the ceremony kept undisclosed, her friend Patrik Simpson told the Associated Press news agency.
"It will be a very beautiful, Anna Nicole send-off," he said. "Of course it will be over-the-top, because it's Anna Nicole."
She will be buried in a custom-made gown and a "very elegant" coffin later today.
The funeral comes after a dispute over where Ms Smith should be buried. Her mother Virgie Arthur wanted her to be buried in her native Texas, but a court ruled in favour of Ms Smith's long-term partner Howard K Stern, who argued that she had wanted to be laid to rest next to her son, who died last year, in the Bahamas.
Her body is being flown over to the island nation this morning with Richard Milstein, the court-appointed advocate for Ms Smith's five-month-old daughter Dannielynn.
The Playboy playmate was found to be "unresponsive" in her Floridian hotel room on February 8th and was later pronounced dead in hospital at the age of 39.
