Pop star Peter Andre has been released from hospital after suffering from suspected meningitis.

Andre, who is married to glamour model Jordan, was taken into hospital last month and his wife, whose real name is Katie Price, kept a vigil at his bedside.

A spokeswoman for the couple confirmed he had been released and asked for him to be given the space he needed to recover.

"Peter Andre has been discharged from East Surrey Hospital this morning," she said.

"He now needs to be left alone with his family to recover and we ask that all the press respect Peter and Katie's privacy at this time."

The couple have one child together and Jordan is expecting another child with Andre. They met while starring in the ITV1 reality show I'm A Celebrity …Get Me Out Of Here and married in 2005.

Both Jordan and Andre recently signed a major TV deal in the US to produce a documentary of their lives.

It is thought that Andre began feeling unwell during a promotional outing in the US, where the couple have been raising the profile of their new TV show.
