Pudsey does it again
17/11/2007
Last night's BBC Children in Need appeal looks set to be the most successful ever as over £19 million was raised during the show.
The total puts the appeal on track to beat 2006's record final total of £33 million.
Altogether £19,089,771 was raised from the seven-hour entertainment marathon, beating the £18.3 million seen at the end of last year's programme.
Over 212,000 phone calls were received during the telethon, while 36,000 donations were made online and over 15,000 using the red button.
"We are overwhelmed by the response of the British public tonight and want to say a big thank you to all those who donated or did something different for Pudsey," BBC Children in Need chief executive David Ramsden said.
"Even more money will pour in over the weeks and months ahead and we will now be looking for great projects around the UK that can make a real difference to young lives."
The programme saw TV viewers treated to a bevy of unusual treats, including performances from the Spice Girls and Boyzone and BBC newsreaders' version of All That Jazz.
Fiona Bruce starred but Ben Brown, Dermot Murnaghan, Andrew Marr and others all impressed with their terrible footwork.
