'Quickie' divorce signals end of Tarrant's marriage
07/02/2007
Who Wants to be a Millionaire? host Chris Tarrant and his wife Ingrid have been granted a 'quickie' divorce.
The couple's relationship broke down last September after Tarrant cheated on the Norwegian-born mother of his children.
Amid media speculation, Tarrant eventually admitted he had been having an affair with a schoolteacher for several years.
In a formal process at London's High Court, a judge ruled that the Tarrants' marriage could be dissolved along with 32 other couples.
The divorce was granted on the grounds of adultery, with neither party present for the ruling.
The couple, who lived in Surrey, have since moved apart, with Tarrant expressing his remorse at the situation in a statement last year.
"I have only myself to blame for the breakdown of my marriage," he said.
The couple met in 1981 and have two children together, as well as children from previous marriages.
