Spaced remade for US

Cult British comedy series Spaced is to be remade for American viewers, according to industry reports.

Variety claims the Channel 4 show is to be retooled for US screens by Fox, with Will & Grace writer Adam Barr in line to adapt the comedy.

The much-loved sitcom - directed by Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz helmer Edgar Wright and written by Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson - saw two accidentally homeless twentysomethings posing as a couple in order to rent a bargain flat.

Pegg and Stevenson took the lead roles, with Pegg's real-life best friend Nick Frost kickstarting his acting career as military-obsessed Mike, while Mark Heap, Bill Bailey and Julia Deakin also starred.

The extent of Pegg and Wright's involvement in the new show was unclear, says Variety, although the behind-the-scenes crew is more set in stone with McG and Robert Green set to produce.

With Spaced nominated for Bafta awards and International Emmys, UK devotees will be hoping the US adaptation is akin to NBC's critically-acclaimed remake of Ricky Gervais' and Stephen Merchant's The Office.
