Surprise Big Brother win for Brian
31/08/2007
Brian Belo has unexpectedly won the eighth series of Big Brother, winning 60.3 per cent of the public vote.
The 20-year-old's win surprised viewers and bookies, who had placed twins Sam and Amanda as favourites for the show, but it was the data entry clerk's night as he took the £100,000 prize.
In his winner's interview Brian said he would "go and buy a bottle of cider" with his prize money, expressed shock when he realised his "little peck" with Amanda had been broadcast and revealed there had been both "so many good times" and also "rock-bottom times".
"It's the best show on TV! I don't know how I won this
honestly, I don't know," he added, before calling himself a "mackerel" for saying making love to Amanda would be like being accompanied by angels with monkeys handing him grapes.
It appears there is some value in not having heard of William Shakespeare after all.
Earlier on the final night Jonty was first out, coming in sixth place behind Carole in fifth and Ziggy in fourth.
The latter excited the crowd by appearing to indicate his enthusiasm for a very special reunion with former housemate Chanelle, who nodded her head coyly when asked if she was interested.
Tree surgeon Liam, who won £100,000 early on in the series, came in third before the tense final result.
Predictably, Sam and Amanda greeted their eviction with squeals and screams of excitement. The pair were warmly cheered by the crowd, reflecting their achievement in not having received a single nomination for eviction throughout the whole series.
It was Brian who took the final prize. "Miss you," he told the house, before emerging amid the usual firework-heavy spectacle.
