Tennant and Serkis to star in Einstein drama
22/05/2007
HBO and Company Pictures, along with the BBC, have announced that David Tennant and Andy Serkis will star in the new one-off drama Einstein and Eddington.
The film takes a closer look at the story behind Albert Einstein's theory of relativity and the people behind the genius who drove his work forward.
Serkis will play Einstein in a story which begins in 1913 and involves the German meeting British scientist Arthur Eddington, who occupied a position at Cambridge famously held by Sir Isaac Newton.
Eddington then started a period of correspondence with Einstein and championed his theories at a time when many in the scientific community were rejecting anything that came out of Germany due to the fallout from the first world war.
The drama is currently being filmed in Cambridge, Croatia and Hungary and will be broadcast on BBC2 later this year.
Jim Broadbent, who starred alongside Serkis recently in Longford, has also been cast in the drama alongside Lucy Cohu, Rebecca Hall and Jodhi May.
The programme will be written by Peter Moffat and directed by Peter Martin, who last worked together on BBC2's biopic of Stephen Hawking.
