Tribute show planned for Inman
05/08/2007
Friends and former colleagues of John Inman are to get together for a one-off tribute show for the late actor.
The West End show, to be staged at the Lyric Theatre on September 30th, will feature performances from EastEnders and Carry On actress Barbara Windsor and comedian Bobby Davro.
Legendary boxer Sir Henry Cooper, drag queen Danny La Rue and Inman's former Are You Being Served? co-stars Trevor Bannister, who played Mr Lucas, and Frank Thornton (Captain Peacock) will all also play a part in the show.
Inman, whose turn as Mr Humphries in Are You Being Served? made him one of the nation's best-loved comic actors, died on March 8th aged 71 following a hepatitis A infection.
His agent Phil Dale commented on next month's tribute show: "Everyone on the bill worked with John or counted themselves as a personal friend.
"It will be a wonderful evening and a celebration of his life."
All proceeds from the event will go to the show business charities the Entertainment Artists Benevolent Fund and The Grand Order of Water Rats.
