Zaraah remains as Gareth Gates skates off Dancing on Ice

10/03/2008

Gareth Gates has left Dancing on Ice in the show's semi-final after his routine with six lifts failed to impress the judges and viewers.

The popstar was placed in the bottom two alongside actress Zaraah Abrahams.

Despite the judges opting to save Abrahams, Gates said his time on the show so far has been "fantastic" and that he had "fought" to do all he could have done.

Commenting on the performance that kept Abrahams in the final, judge Jason Gardiner said: "That is a semi-final performance. You have such beautiful arm lines, I could watch all night. You deserve to be in the final because of that."

Last night's show saw the celebrities skating on their own for the first time and also had a performance from X-Factor winner Leona Lewis, who sang her latest song Footprints in the Sand while Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean skated around her.

The competition remains close between Suzanne Shaw and Chris Fountain; both of whom wowed the judges for another week running.

Hollyoaks star Fountain and his partner Frankie earned 29 points - the highest score of the series so far - for their dance to Livin' La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin.

Meanwhile singer Suzanne Shaw earned her highest score so far - 27.5 - for her dance with partner Matt to the Bangles' Eternal Flame.
