Djokovic to face Murray in Masters final after beating Nadal

03/08/2008

Novak Djokovic will face Andy Murray in the final of the Cincinnati Masters after he defeated soon-to-be world number one Rafael Nadal in straight sets.

The Serbian will hope to avenge his defeat against Murray in the Toronto Masters last week following his 6-1 7-5 win over Nadal.

Djokovic dominated the first set, breaking Nadal twice before the Spaniard found some rhythm in the second set.

Nadal had been on a 32-match winning streak, that included tournament wins at the French Open and Wimbledon, before his loss to Djokovic.

The 22-year-old claimed he was suffering from blisters and said that was the reason for his poor display in the first set.

Djokovic went 5-0 up at the start of the match before Nadal got himself on the scoreboard, however, the Serbian held serve easily in the next game to take the first set as Nadal's forehand found the net.

Nadal fought hard in the second set and was level at 5-5 before Djokovic gained the vital breakthrough.

The Spaniard hit the net with a backhand to give Djokovic break point and he secured the lead by hitting some heavy groundstrokes before registering the passing shot.

Djokovic then held serve to win the match and set up a final against British number one Murray.

The Scot currently trails Djokovic in the head-to-head match up between the pair. Until last week's win in Canada Murray had not beaten the Serbian who has defeated Murray on four occasions.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18713528-ADNFCR
