Ivanovic forced to withdraw from Games
10/08/2008
Ana Ivanovic has been forced to pull out of the Olympic tennis tournament due to a thumb injury.
The top-seed sustained the injury in training following her exit from Wimbledon and has been unable to train since arriving in China.
"This is one of the worst moments of my career," said the 20-year-old Serb.
The French Open champion joins former Olympic champion Lindsay Davenport, Maria Sharapova, Tatiana Golovin, Amelie Mauresmo and Mary Pierce in missing the event.
Second seed Jelena Jankovic is also still doubt for the tournament after picking up a calf strain.
Ivanovic's withdrawal came on a rain-hit day at the tennis tournament where only nine of a scheduled 45 matches were completed.
