Murray cruises into third round in Cincinnati
30/07/2008
Andy Murray looked to be in good form as he eased his way into the third round of the Cincinnati Masters with a straight sets win over Sam Querrey.
Although Murray was 3-0 down in the first set he fought back well and found the second set much easier, eventually winning 7-6 7/3 6-1.
The Scot received a bye in the first round and seemed a little rusty when he lost his opening service game. However, once he got himself on the scoreboard he outclassed his opponent.
Murray quickly levelled things at 3-3 and pressurised Querrey's serve but the 20-year-old American did well to hang on and force a tie-break.
This proved to be the difference between the two players as Murray's emerging dominance earned him a 5-1 lead in the tie-break which he eventually closed out 7-3.
Having taken a one set lead Murray carried momentum into the start of the second set and was able to benefit from a series of unforced errors from Querrey.
The Scot had found his range by now and was 4-0 ahead with the cushion of a double break before Querrey won his first game of the second set.
Murray then finished things in style, breaking the American to book his place in the third round where he will face either Dimitry Tursunov or Richard Gasquet.
Also in the second round, seventh seed James Blake beat Gilles Simon 6-4 6-3 but fifth seed David Ferrer was upset 7-6 3-6 6-3 by Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti.
