Murray eases to US Open victory
25/08/2008
Andy Murray eased to a straight sets victory in his opening encounter of the US Open at Flushing Meadows.
Murray defeated Sergio Roitman, an Argentinean ranked 102 in the world, 6-3, 6-4, 6-0.
Murray broke Roitman's very first service game, and it was a sign of things to come as the 21-year-old Scot won a contest that at times resembled a practice match, rather than a Grand Slam encounter.
Murray won the final set 6-0 to make it as comfortable an opening encounter as Murray could possibly wish to happen.
In the women's section, British number one Anne Keothavong won her first ever Grand Slam match away from Wimbledon with victory over Alexa Glatch.
The 24-year-old beat American qualifier Glatch, who is 179 places lower than her in the rankings, 6-2, 6-2.
Keothavong qualified directly for the main draw after a run that has seen her rise to 87 in the world rankings.
Keothavong will play Italy's 25th seed Francesca Schiavone in round two.
