Nadal was too good for me, Murray admits
03/07/2008
Andy Murray has admitted Rafael Nadal was too good for him after crashing out of Wimbledon at the quarter-final stage.
The 12th seed lost in straight sets to the four-time French Open champion on Centre Court last night, ending hopes of a first British semi-finalist at SW19 since 2003.
Speaking after the comprehensive 6-3 6-2 6-4 loss Murray said his opponent had been "awesome".
"He did everything much better than me and definitely deserved to win the match and sometimes in sport that happens, where your opponent just plays too good for you," Murray admitted.
"And even if I had played really well tonight he was still playing too good that it would have been really hard for me to win."
The 21-year-old insisted that he still thought he had enjoyed a good Wimbledon fortnight and said Nadal now had a strong chance of winning the tournament outright.
Murray also gave his thanks to the crowd at the All England Club after they helped him progress to his first-ever grand slam quarter-final.
"Today they were all behind me I just didn't give them enough to shout about.
"I'm disappointed right now I wish I could have played better, I did feel like I had a chance of winning the match; I knew I would have had to have played really well."
