Beckham mulls Real offer

27/12/2006

David Beckham is mulling over whether to commit himself to Real Madrid for another two and a half years.

The former England captain has been offered an extension to his current deal, which expires next June, and is considering whether to stay in Spain for effectively the rest of his career or move on.

Beckham, 31, has been offered a two-year extension and has reportedly been given until the end of the month to make up his mind.

If he refuses the Real offer then he will be a free agent from the summer and be able to negotiate with a new club from the turn of the year under the Bosman regulations.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, the former Manchester United star is wanted at the Bernabeu by both president Ramon Calderon and coach Fabio Capello, who had previously dropped the Englishman to the bench.

But Beckham has started for the Spanish giants in the last three matches and it appears he may have won over his Italian coach.

Beckham has not won a trophy during his time in the Spanish capital but has become a firm fan favourite since moving from Old Trafford in the summer of 2003.

He is said to be tempted by an offer to play in the US, where he would be the biggest star in Major League Soccer, while a number of Premiership clubs have also expressed an interest in bringing him back to England.
