Bolton release midfield trio
17/05/2008
Bolton Wanderers have released midfield trio Ivan Campo, Stelios Giannakopoulos and Andranik Teymourian.
The club have, however, offered new contracts to goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen and full-back Ricardo Gardner.
Campo, Giannakopoulos and Teymourian were all at the end of their contracts and manager Gary Megson reported the club was not looking to offer them fresh terms.
He said: "Ivan [Campo], Stelios [Giannakopoulos] and Andranik [Teymourian] have all done well for Bolton Wanderers and I'd like to express my gratitude to them. It's time for them to move on and I wish them all the best."
Campo has been at the Reebok Stadium for six years since a move from Real Madrid. The Spaniard became a cult figure at the club for his trademark hair.
Giannakopoulos joined Bolton in 2003 but has struggled to hold a place in the side in recent years, playing mostly as a substitute last season.
Neither Jaaskelainen nor Gardner has signed their deal yet but Megson remains hopeful the players will remain with the club who narrowly avoided relegation this season.
Megson said: "Jussi [Jaaskelainen] and Ricardo [Gardner] have both been excellent servants and are still very much part of my future plans for this football club. Hopefully, we can get them secured on new deals as soon as possible."
It had been thought that Jaaskelainen would leave the club at the end of the season, especially after Ali Al Habasi performed well to help the club stay in the Premier League towards the end of the season.
