Cisse to join Sunderland on loan
20/08/2008
French side Olympique Marseille have claimed an agreement has been reached with Sunderland over a season-long loan move for striker Djibril Cisse.
The former Liverpool forward is expected to join the Black Cats this week, putting him in contention to make his debut for Roy Keane's side in their away match at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
"An agreement has been reached in principle between l'OM and Sunderland for the loan of Djibril Cisse to the English club until the end of the season," reads a statement from club president Pape Diouf on Marseille's official website.
"Some details still need to be resolved for the loan to be officially completed."
Cisse's goalscoring record since making his move from Anfield to the Stade Velodrome has been impressive, scoring 16 times in 36 league appearances during the 2007/08 campaign.
He is expected to bolster a Sunderland strikeforce that failed to score against Cisse's old club on the opening day of the Premier League season last Saturday.
