Lyn Jones leaves Ospreys

16/05/2008

Head coach Lyn Jones has announced his decision to part company with the Ospreys.

Jones had been in charge since the Welsh outfit was formed out of an alliance between now-disbanded teams Swansea and Neath.

After taking his side to the quarter-finals of European rugby's premier club competition the Heineken Cup, a defeat to London's Saracens sparked speculation surrounding Jones' position as manager.

In a statement issued on Friday, Jones commented: "I take great satisfaction in our many achievements over the past five years. The region now stands as one of the leading sides in European rugby and that is something that I know everybody involved at the Ospreys is proud of."

He added: "Having achieved the success, I feel its now time to get my teeth into a new challenge and look for fresh horizons."

Ospreys managing director Roger Blyth will now lead a search for the man to fill Jones' boots, promising to scour the globe to find a boss of "worldwide calibre".
