No formal complaint from England 'sex attack victim'

The woman at the centre of sexual assault allegations made against four England rugby players has confirmed she will not be making a formal complaint.

Lawyers representing the 18-year-old, who says she was sexually assaulted at the Auckland hotel where the England squad were staying during their New Zealand tour, said she thought a formal complaint would make her life worse.

"We can advise that the victim remains of the view that she will not make a formal complaint to the New Zealand police," a letter from Chapman Tripp solicitors to the RFU said.

The RFU has previously expressed its wish to clear the names of the four players implicated in the allegations, but will be unable to do so until a formal complaint is made.

A spokesman told inthenews.co.uk the letter from Chapman Tripp was being considered by its disciplinary officer Judge Jeff Blackett, who is leading the union's own investigation into the claims.

"He is considering the contents of the letter and his investigation is continuing," he said.

"No date has been set for the completion of the investigation."
