Sale sign Samoan Tuilagi
19/08/2008
Sale Sharks have signed Samoan international Anitelia (Andy) Tuilagi on a four-year contract.
The 22-year-old winger played seven games for Leeds Carnegie last season, scoring one try, and was formerly with Leicester Tigers.
Tuilagi has been capped 14 times by Samoa and was a member of their squad at the 2007 World Cup.
Sale CEO James Jennings said, Andy is very talented young player with huge potential. I am sure that he will be a great success at Sale Sharks."
Director of Rugby Philippe Saint Andre said, "Andy is a great acquisition for the club. He is young, strong and has played at international level. I am sure he will prove to be a great signing for us."
The Sharks have also announced that Martin Fernandez Lobbe will be the new club captain for the 2008-2009 season.
The Argentine takes over from Scottish international Jason White and was delighted to be given such a prestigious role.
"I am delighted to be named as Captain of Sale Sharks," Lobbe said.
"This is my third season here and to follow in the footsteps of Jason Robinson and Jason White is indeed a great honour."
