Two Southampton footballers bailed in bag theft probe

25/03/2008

Two Southampton players have been bailed after being arrested over an alleged theft from bags in a nightclub staff room.

Bradley Wright-Phillips, 23, and Nathan Dyer, 20, were detained on Tuesday over an incident at the Bar Bluu nightclub in Southsea, Hampshire on February 28th, which was reported on March 5th.

A spokesman for Hampshire police said: "We can confirm that two men, aged 20 and 23, have been arrested in connection with an allegation of burglary."

The pair were bailed until June 17th at Portsmouth Central police station.

Police launched an investigation after two men were shown on CCTV entering an unlocked room at the venue in the early hours of February 28th.

Bar Bluu staff later reported that £145 in cash, cigarettes and mobile phones had been taken from three handbags in the staff room of the club, which on the night of the 28th was hosting a concert by R 'n' B artist Kano.

A Southampton Football Club spokesman said: "It's a matter of police investigation and we cannot comment."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18521985-ADNFCR
