Webber signs one-year extension with Red Bull Racing
03/07/2008
Red Bull Racing have confirmed that driver Mark Webber has signed a one-year contract extension with the team.
The Australian's contract at the Milton Keynes-based team ran out at the end of the current season, but he will now definitely race with the team next season.
"I am very happy to have signed up for another year with Red Bull Racing," said Webber. "Continuing with Red Bull Racing for 2009 was a very easy decision for me to make.
"So far this year, our reliability has improved and that's allowed us to exploit our performance.
"The progress the team has made in the last 10 months has been excellent and I am looking forward to carrying that momentum through to the end of the season."
Webber has had a good start to the season and he is eighth in the world championship with 18 points, while Red Bull are fourth in the constructors' championship.
The 31-year-old has gained points in six of the eight races this season with a best finish of fourth at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Red Bull were delighted with resigning Webber saying "we believe that Mark is absolutely the right guy to have in the car".
The team will now be on the search for a driver to partner Webber next season after David Coulthard announced today he would be retiring at the end of the season.
