Westwood extends Wolves stay

28/08/2008

Warrington Wolves second row Ben Westwood has ended speculation over his future by signing a new two-year contract extension.

The 27-year-old will remain at the Halliwell Jones Stadium until at least the end of the 2011 Super League season, extending his career at Wolves to nine years.

Westwood initially signed as a centre from Wakefield Wildcats for £60,000 in 2002 but has since switched to the pack and become one of his side's most influential forwards.

And the England international said he is glad to have finally settled his future after being linked to a number of rival clubs over the last couple of months.

"I'm pleased everything is done and dusted and I've committed my future to the Wolves," he said.

"I'm settled here, the fans have been great with me and I'm looking forward to winning honours in the shirt in the not-too-distant future.

"Obviously I had another year to run on my contract, but I wanted to get a new deal sorted as quick as possible. I'm going nowhere."

Wolves coach James Lowes said Westwood's contract is "good news for the club".

"Ben's an important part of our pack," Lowes explained.

"His form, certainly while I've been here, has warranted him getting an extra two years with us."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18751078-ADNFCR
