Top 5 Manchester Gyms

Manchester.com has teamed up with HFE, the UK’s most popular provider to the health and fitness industry. Manchester is one of HFE’s most popular cities for running yoga, Pilates, ETM, and personal trainer courses, so if anyone can recognise outstanding health and fitness facilities, they can.

From a list of more than 20 clubs, HFE looked at available facilities, accessibility, reviews and quality of customer service to bring you their top 5.

Virgin Active Lancashire Health and Racquets Club – Middleton

An extremely well presented club with an extensive range of facilities, including indoor and outdoor pools, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, badminton, two large group exercise studios, a spacious and well-equipped gym, restaurant, spa and an action-packed kid’s activity programme.

Staff were really friendly and willing to go the extra mile to accommodate our requests. When we requested further information, it was emailed promptly on the same day.

David Lloyd Racquets and Fitness – Cheadle

While this club is primarily focused on racquet sports, it does have excellent gym facilities and various studios where members can take part in a range of classes including the ever-popular Les Mills programmes.

The main draw is the range of tennis facilities on-site. David Lloyd Cheadle boasts nine indoor tennis courts and six outdoor tennis courts. Other racquet sports are also catered for with four badminton courts and two squash courts.

Staff are always willing to go above and beyond, whether that’s signing up for a new membership or simply asking for more information.

The Village Health and Fitness – Ashton Moss

The Village is first and foremost a hotel with excellent transport links and ample parking. Despite this, their fitness facilities rival any of the other clubs featured in our top five. These include a fully air-conditioned gym with the latest cardio equipment and a well-equipped free weights area. Personal trainers are always on hand if you need that extra push towards your goals.

Pre and post-workout facilities are also in abundance; there’s a 25m heated pool, restaurant, bar and a Starbucks to take advantage of.

Whenever we’ve interacted with staff at The Village, they have always been incredibly helpful and accommodating, even at the busiest of times.

Nuffield Health and Fitness – Manchester City Centre

Located in the heart of Manchester’s city centre, this highly-equipped club is perfect for residents and regular commuters in equal measure. It’s by no means a deal-breaker, but many may find the fact this club is adults-only, a real plus.

Inside, the gym has a sizeable free weights area, the latest cardio equipment and a dedicated spin studio. There’s also a 20m swimming pool and separate male and female steam rooms. To help with those niggles, aches and pains, Nuffield Health offer extensive physiotherapy services. Members can receive a substantial discount.

With everything this gym has to offer, coupled with its prime location, it really is hard to beat.

The Y Club prides itself on being one of the biggest and most fully-featured clubs in the whole of Manchester. It welcomes seasoned fitness professionals, casual gym goers and newcomers alike. The sheer range of facilities literally provides something for everyone. From the modern gym, to indoor running track, swimming pool and sports hall, all tastes are catered for.

There’s also an impressive 70 classes a week to choose from and these include Zumba, yoga, circuit training and Les Mills’ Insanity.
