New 'Free' Schools in Manchester and Area

Free schools are new independent state-funded schools, championed by the former Conservative Education Secretary Michael Gove. Drawing on the experience of new school programmes which have met with success in the US and Sweden, they provide a way for groups of parents, teachers, charities, existing schools or other organisations to respond to a need for a new school in their community - whether for extra places, to raise standards or to offer greater choice in education.
