HIDDEN
MANCHESTER (part 10)
It is curious that during the recent food revolution in the city which followed the drinking revolution so few restaurants attempted to resurrect British cooking. So if you are feeling peckish and want the best of the north's traditional food look no further than, Sam's Chop House, Chapel Walks and Mr Thomas's Chop House, Cross Street.
These two provide classic British food, just like mother used to make: steaks, Barnsley Chops, gravy, potato pies, Yorkshire pudding, black pudding and sticky desserts.
The latter building has a sumptuous interior of deep green tiles and is worth going just to look at. Sadly the two restaurants only serve food at lunch time.
If its a modern local slant to food you want then look no further than Simply Heathcotes on Jackson's Row.
