Charity albums, don't you just love 'em? All the proceeds from this CD of remixes and cover versions of Bjork's Army of Me will go to UNICEF, so would it be fair to criticise it? Well, it's certainly fair to say that it does go on a bit and that 20 versions of the same song is maybe too much...

Army Of Me

In January, Bjork advertised on her website for people to submit their own remixes and cover versions of Army Of Me - having found out in a poll that it was her most popular song to cover.

As you might expect, there are very eclectic versions of it on this CD, comnig from all kinds of sources. The opening song from Canadian band Interzone is a death metal cover and sounds surprising 'right'. Grisbi from France has a nice acoustic version, but the country cover from The Messengers of God is a little too strange.

Dr Syntax n CB Turbo v Rivethead have the most Bjork-like remix, while Martin White gives it a Gallic instrumental flavour and Hemp go all industrial. However, no matter how different the interpretations are, there's no getting around the fact that they are 20 versions of the same song. There's probably enough to make it worthwhile buying for charity, but only because it's for charity...
